Australian health libraries and their staff comprise an important part of the health information workforce, alongside health information managers and health information specialists by providing quality information to improve patient care, evidence based practice and research support, specialist resources, outstanding value and return on investment, information literacy training, and decision ready information.

The ALIA URL group provides a networking and information-sharing forum for all levels of library staff interested in issues and trends affecting the development of university and research libraries.
This seminar presentation (PowerPoint slides) investigates the future skills and competencies required by health librarians.
In late 2009, Health Libraries Australia (HLA) received a small grant to undertake a national research project to determine the future requirements for health librarians in the workforce in Australia and develop a structured, modular education framework (post-graduate qualification and continuing professional development structure) to meet these requirements.
The Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) submission in response to the Digital Health Agency consultation discussing the value of Australian Public Library Alliance (APLA) and Health Libraries Australia (HLA) as partners in the provision of access to authoritative health information.
